Juggling Roles
My goal is to share insights from my research and life to help people who juggle multiple roles. Most people have multiple roles, such as employee, friend, partner, parent, sports club member, church member, or volunteer. We want to do it all. Some of us want to excel in each role, others focus on keeping everyone happy in all roles, and yet others are simply in survival mode. The question is whether we can have it all. Can you be happy while juggling multiple roles? I answer this question in my forthcoming book “Work-Life Strategy”. Stay tuned for the release date. For now, you can read research-based management tips under insights, as well as my own juggling experience in the blog. Happy Reading!

Blog
You Can’t Have It All. But Can You Be Happy?
Today, I turned 40. It seems like a good day to start a blog. As a professor in management, my expertise is in work-life balance and employee well-being. I know many relevant theories and research articles that tell us what work-life balance can look like on paper. On top of that, I find that my experience as a mom of 2.5 kids helps to understand what balance looks like in reality.
Best Birthday Gift Ever.
My husband gave me the best birthday present I can imagine. A weekend to myself. He is taking two of the kids to our cabin in Whistler. My son is with his dad this week. This means an empty house for me. Sleeping when I want to sleep. Writing when I want to write. Exercising when I want to exercise. Eating what I want to eat. Ask any parent – the feeling of being able to do whatever you want to do for 48 hours straight is magical.

Research
I do research on employee well-being including employee recovery, workaholism, work-life balance, and physical activity. I am motivated to find an answer to the question of why people work in the way they do, and what work styles improve work outcomes, work-life balance, and well-being.
My work has been published in top academic journals such as American Psychologist, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Academy of Management Discoveries, and Journal of Organizational Behavior. My research has been featured in articles published by Harvard Business Review.
